Sexbot Update

Getting closer.

THIS is the most life-like robot suit ever – the cyber girl Repliee R-1.

Based on a real five-year-old Japanese girl, this machine was built to look just like a human.

The technology isn’t there yet to overcome the uncanny valley, and many will scoff that this is a long way off from hot and good-to-go sexbots, but the vector trajectory is unmistakeable. The future is men fornicating with robot women that are hotter than the human women they can score, and this possibility is no longer in the realm of science fantasy.

I am not surprised the Japanese are leading the way on the sexbot revolution.

Can a guy who nails the sexbot be charged with virtual child molestation?

id like to go back to the last thread about recession and sex. i saw this quote yesterday when Congress was grilling Dick Fuld.

The people in my block in Baltimore, if they perform poorly, they get fired,” said Representative Elijah E. Cummings, Democrat of Maryland. “They certainly don’t get a bonus.”

hold on hold on. Lets let the pretty lie perish. If you are loading milk crate for the corner store and you suck you get fired. but the rules are different in the corporate world and we all know that. lifes not fair. Roissy tells you all the time its not.

Lets further perish the pretty lie. if you are a politician and you suck at being a politican and dont imporve the general municipality that you represent, should u then give back all your donations and salary? we all know that never happens.

We all know politicans suck at thier jobs a whole lot more than corporate officers. its just openly unveiled jealousy when they rant about executive pay.

    Pretty Lie Perished.

It won’t be a life-like Japanese girl until it yelps while I’m going to town on it.

Let’s just hope that we’ll coast on enough civilizational momentum to have enough new smart engineers around who will continue developing this product.

  5. i wonder how these new products – and the new wave of sexbots or not _just_ sexbots of that not too far-away future – will affect life, how it’s gonna redefine definitions like alpha, beta, the game, love emotions and family.

A sexbot doesn’t have to have anywhere near human-level intelligence and conversational skills, and not even human-level ability to navigate its environment gracefully – just as those qualities are not required of a prostitute when she’s in the process of providing her services. What is strictly required to provide a life-like sexual experience is basic motor and vocal responsiveness in bed. The ability to adapt realistically to the movements of one’s partner and adopt a position on command are a big plus but probably doable in the near future.

  11. It seems that this would be the next logical step in wanking after the rapid proliferation of YouTubish like porno sites.

However, I think the costs of such will be far too high for the average beta to afford near future. Just look at the current Real Dolls that exist now, there something like 5 grand for a life like mound of plastic. Imagine the costs of something that would likely need thousands of sensors and a complex processing system.

Assuming mass production, they’d still be on the same level as buying a car. In which case, it’d still have enough appeal to establish a large market, but still at a considerable expense and certainly not likely to happen in the next 50 years or so.

That is ridiculous. The cost of computing is falling by a thousandfold per decade. For the same price, you can expect to buy a million times more computing power in 2028 than now. Material science is another key field where advances are made all the time. Read, for instance, MIT Technology Review to inform yourself of the constant barrage of advances made in that area in addition to many others.

  15. This is almost impossible. I’m not saying it cannot be done. I am saying it cannot be done with anything like the current level of technology, in any way.

    1. The ability to mimic realistically the female human form is just not there. It does not exist: heartbeat, smell, instinctive reactions, skin, hair, eyes, responsiveness to touch — all the biological systems that are incredibly complex and interact with men.

THAT technical hurdle is akin to going from needle and compass in 1500 to GPS in 1998.

    2. The ability to mimic realistically the female social interactions, even to the level of pro-forma pr0n performances, is just not there. AI systems are “deep” but “fragile” in that they lack the awareness of broad range of stimuli — even a relatively primitive organism such as a crab has more ability to react to general stimuli than the most complex AI system.

To realistically simulate a woman’s emotional/psychological responses is just not within any reach of computer tech — self aware systems able to respond to large arrays of stimuli, such as touch, urgency of a partner, voice, eye contact, expressions, etc. simply cannot be constructed in the current digital architecture. This is why the Turing Test is still a barrier — you can always trip up a computer on current events, opinions on entertainment, sports, etc.

I’ve seen this fantasy proposed — it’s about as realistic as hanging out with vampires. It’s nowhere near reality. It possibly could be done — but would take quantum leaps in technology likely only 500 years from now.

To build a decent fuckbot, you don’t any of the fancy social interactions.

Building a robot able to pass the Turing test is a totally different matter altogether, for sure.

By the way, don’t tell you are a believer in the idea that the substrate strong AI requires has to be a very large quantum computer or something equally exotic.

  19. Markku — even base reactions require more ability to process broad sensory inputs and react in ways that mimic a human woman.

THAT is a complex biological system that is not trivial to emulate. Simply not possible to mimic with ANY computer system currently or in development. Since biological systems are not binary. Period.

That’s beyond the problems of physically simulating flesh and blood, the physical infrastructure. Simply not possible.

Of course. But producing all the grunts, moans, breathing, fuck-me-harder -pleas etc. is a matter of throwing computing power at the problem and modeling that behavior to a satisfactory degree which problem is NOT AI-complete in the sense that full human-level intelligence is required. Hell, think about how utterly non-interactive porn is and yet how hugely popular it is.

THAT is a complex biological system that is not trivial to emulate. Simply not possible to mimic with ANY computer system currently or in development.

I don’t think you fully grok the fact that, given long-term trends in the change of price-performance of computing, supercomputers are within 1-2 decades of reaching human brain level computing power. Personal computers seem to be lagging by a decade.

Since biological systems are not binary. Period.

Any analog system can be approximated by a digital computer to an arbitrary degree.

That’s beyond the problems of physically simulating flesh and blood, the physical infrastructure. Simply not possible.

The physical simulation of flesh and blood to a satisfactory degree is not very difficult in principle. I don’t know how good artificial skin is at the moment, but there is considerable demand for it for medical purposes.

Of course the techonology required to construct a body indistinquishable from a real human body is not there yet, not to mention the intelligence required to control it to a degree sophisticated enough to send it to uncanny valley (in fact, I think it may be best not to even aim for indistinguishability because of the creep factor). I’d say sexbots will begin to make a dent in the porn market within 10-15 years. Within 20-30 years they will be the largest segment of the porn market. Because porn is already having a major influence on sexual preferences (ask DA), I don’t see how interactive and tactile 3D-porn could not have an even greater impact on the sexual marketplace.

  21. I’m with Markku on this one. The AI of a decent fuckbot doesn’t have to be complicated at all. In principle all you need is a mapping from sensory inputs (user’s actions) to a bit of movement (or poses) and vocalization. Such mappings could be based on ad-hoc rules (with randomization) or even machine learning methods.

There’s no need to simulate emotions on a deeper level — perhaps just a single variable for the level of arousal. And if the process turns out to be too hard to automate, you can always attach some remote control to the bot.

Also, constraining the fuckbot to lie on a surface (e.g., bed) will simplify mechanical requirements significantly.

(Certainly certain fetishes — say, S&M — require much more complicated AI and mechanics, but let’s stay within the basic sex positions for now.)

Actually, the biggest problem I see with sexbots is social acceptance. Even if the bots were the best thing invented since sliced bread, who has the nerve to carry such thing to his home? But perhaps someone will figure out clever, privacy-preserving delivery system.

Speaking of vocal synthesis, listen to this artificial singer (vocaloid), again from Japan:

Blend this level of synthesis with pre-recorded phrases, and you already have the sound system of a fuckbot ready.

What is there to figure out about delivering the damn thing in a large nondescript box?

Speaking of movement and navigating rough terrain, things may be moving faster than any of you might have thought.

Check out Big Dog, the all-terrain walking military robot by Boston Dynamics, designed to carry payloads up to 340 pounds. Note how it manages to balance itself dynamically and not fall when it receives a swift kick on the side while walking on ice.

This stuff is from 2008, not science fiction.

  23. Actually, I don’t think Sexbots will change the landscape for marriage or love any more than strip clubs and call-girls have.

All that sexbots will do is put strippers and prostitutes out of business. This may put pressure on women, but only to the extent that strip clubs put pressure on women below 7, and cougars.

A strip club is expensive. $500 for a moderate amount of fun. Thus, most men only go once or twice a year. A sexbot will make the same experience available daily.

But it won’t change marriage/love any more than strip clubs and call-girls have. It will merely make the price more accessible.

“Actually, the biggest problem I see with sexbots is social acceptance. ”

I disagree. Do you not know about the existence of strip clubs?

It will be more socially acceptable than strip-clubs, which are already an accepted part of society that feminists have failed to shut down.

  24. this sexbot thing is exaclty what is NEEDED. kinda
sucks IMHO that you said (in the orginal post discussing
this) that somehow, alpha’s would benefit most even from this They always come on top when they shouldnt. I couldnt help but want to imagine a sci-fi “what if” that shakes up the sexual market, in which this is not the case.

The following is far, far less plausible, just imagined
for fun. Now hers a sexual market sci-fi “what if”
I can really sink my teeth into.

    Invasion Of The Betamatas (Beta-mate-as)

    Imagine if you will…

Benevolent(?) Extraterrestials want to evolve earth into a peaceful society. they realize the problem is with the female libido. And so they genetically engineer a humanoid race and unleash it on the planet: the Betamatas. Betamatas resemble human women, only all are cartoonishly hot and are enhanced by superphermones, as well as anti-rape defense mechanisms. But their libido is is hardwired to be the OPPOSITE of the viler aspects of earthwomens libido. They want nice guys and mean it! While asshole alpha behaviour turns them to cold bitches..FOR REAL. Basically, imagine the immigration of a lot of women with the looks, appeal, and PREFERENCES of Jessica Rabbit.
I’m just saying…it would be interesting to see how THAT would change things. truly life as it should be. I would go into detail on this Betatopia but I’m trying to cut it short. Basically as in the sexbot fantasy, beta-omega males benefit, women are punished. But what would make THIS alternate reality so much more satisfying is watching the alphas go apeshit. The roissys of the world will be forced to play a whole new game, where they learn to drop that swagger, pet cats, shed tears, and be nice to people.

World Peace should take place in, oh, 1 year tops. The planet would turn into fucking Hello Kitty. It will in many ways be world in which women always dreamed of, yet women will HATE the way it was brought about, as it will force them to confront themselves.
